Chart 1: Human Resource and Health Facilities In Garowe District
The minimum standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO) to ensure basic health care services are 20 physicians per 100,000 people. There is a shortage of medical doctors in Garowe as the case in other parts of Puntland, which forces the closure of numerous private clinics.
Figure 1 Medical Personnel in Garowe
Persons under 25 years old form the bulk of the population at 65% of the total population. With 15% being above 50 years which is also the average life expectancy rate in the country ( 48 years for men and 50 years for women, respectively). This leaves only 20% of the population being at the prime economically productive age bracket of 26-50 years.
